Its relief is quite rugged, with hills that create a mountainous landscape of unsurpassed beauty. The city, of the same name, is known as the Athens of Cuba, for its majestic classical architecture and its cultural and literary development. There are important places of interest such as the Sauto Theater, the Farmacia Triolet and the Church of San Carlos.
This city is the true cradle of the Afro-Cuban religion, so, between majestic neoclassical constructions, you will hear the unmistakable rhythm of the rumba and learn from Santería as well. We recommend that you do not miss the opportunity to visit Cárdenas, perfect example of a colonial city.

Matanzas is crossed by three rivers called Yumurí, San Juan and Canímar, over which a series of bridges have been built, so Matanzas is also known as "the city of the bridges". The landscapes that make up the surroundings next to the city are of singular beauty, among which the Pan de Matanzas and the Yumurí Valley stand out.
Also highlighted are the Cueva de Saturno, the Cueva de Ambrosio -with an unreal atmosphere in which you can feel the presence of Indians, corsairs and slaves through the remains of their paintings- and the Cueva de Bellamar, where you can see beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, forming capricious images and forms.

In Matanzas we find the famous beach of Varadero, one of the main destinations of the Caribbean with 21 km of white and fine sands and crystal clear waters, from where you can reach Cayo Blanco (by catamaran), a portion of island surrounded by even clearer and more beautiful waters. The area is the perfect spot for nautic activities such as snorkeling, diving, swimming with dolphins and deep-sea fishing.
Very close to the city is the Zapata Peninsula, known for its natural beauty; ideal setting for bird watching, diving and hiking; A walk through the Laguna del Tesoro will show you the Taíno customs and legends, surrounded by the most beautiful nature in the south of Matanzas; Do not miss visiting Boca de Guamá, with its Taino Village and its crocodile farm.
In Matanzas also locates the exuberant Montemar Natural Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve because it is home to numerous animal species in Cuba. In what the world knows as Bahía de Cochinos, and the Cubans call Playa Girón, an important page of the history of the Cuban Revolution was written, which you can see in the Playa Girón Museum, and it is also an area of wonderful beaches where you can enjoy the sun and practice diving and snorkeling without the need of a boat.
