Havana in the 50's is pleasantly remembered for the cultural scene that took place in each of its nights. It was a city of entertainment and art. In those years there were almost a thousand bars, clubs and nearly 400 cinemas, a number greater than those of Paris and New York. Among the most important sites that remain today is the legendary Salón Tropicana, which presents an extravagant show with more than 200 dancers and singers.
Those who danced then were regulars in the gardens of the La Polar and La Tropical breweries. And those who preferred more private spaces moved between the Gallego, Asturiano, Deportivo La Estrella and the Candado club. Gradually other great shows were opening their doors in places like the Parisien of the Hotel Nacional; the Montmartre, the Cabaret Sans Souci, and the famous Red Room of the Hotel Capri.
In all of them the danzón, the son, the rumba, the bolero, the mambo, and the cha, cha, cha were the kings of the night. Unforgettable figures such as Benny Moré, the Trío Matamoros, Celia Cruz y la Sonora Matancera, Olga Guillot and many others made up an extraordinarily welcoming scene.
The tour opens with the tasting of a typical Cuban cocktail in The Floridita. Is this a bar with a unique atmosphere, good music, 50's-style decoration, original furniture from the beginning of the 20th century, and the best? their excellent daiquiris! You will also be able to learn about the history of the property, known worldwide for being highly frequented by the American writer Ernest Hemingway.
Depending on the cultural billboard, attendance at a musical, ballet or dance event is included in the route. Among them a classical music concert in the San Felipe Neri Auditorium Room, the presentation of a contemporary dance company at the Marti Theater, or the staging of a ballet piece in the Great Theater of Havana.
Then we will cross to the other side of the bay, to enjoy an impressive view of Havana at night. Right there we will be able to attend the cannon shot ceremony at 9 pm, in the military complex Morro-Cabana, one of the great military fortresses in Havana where every night a military parade with attributes and technique from the colonial era is held, which concludes with the firing of a salute from one of the cannons located in the Cabaña. The unique ceremony of the "cannon shot" in Havana, a tradition that recalls the closing of the gates of the wall that protected the city in the days of the Spanish colony, was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation in Cuba.
To close the night with a flourish, you can enjoy a live Latin jazz show at the jazz cafe. This is one of the best live music clubs in Havana and hosts excellent performances by both new artists and established figures. You will know an elegant place, with a beautiful panoramic view of the Malecón habanero. The highlight will be the presentations of top-class musicians, lovers of jazz and other genres. In addition, the guide will instruct you on the history of Cuban jazz, the great milestones and the really great moments within this genre on the island.
